W. C. ANDERSON DIES FOLLOWING BRIEF ILLNESS

Rites To Be Held At Masonic Temple This Friday Afternoon

Wm. C. Anderson, well known contractor and builder of Akron, passed away at his borne here Wednesday morning, December 19, 1945, at the age of 73 years, 8 months and 13 days. While Mr. Anderson had not been in rugged health the past few years, he had been about as usual until he became ill of the prevailing malady, flu, a few days previously.

At about 8:30 o'clock yesterday morning Mrs. Anderson went to her husband's bedside and found that he had passed away in his sleep. His unexpected death was a grievous shock to her and other members of the family.

Wm. C. Anderson was born April 6, 1871, at Holland, in the southern part of Sweden. When sixteen years of age he was apprenticed as a wagon maker and blacksmith. In 1890 his uncle, H. P. Anderson, sent for him to come to America and he arrived in Akron on June 3, that year, and began working for his uncle in the carpenter and contracting business. He continued that trade ever since, in later years being associated with his sons under the firm name of the Anderson Construction Co., erecting hundreds of buildings of various descriptions in town and over a wide scope of surrounding territory.

Mr. Anderson and Mary Ericson were united in marriage June 3, 1895, in Akron, Iowa and had made their home here ever since. Their union was blessed with four sons, Claude and Holland, of Akron; Sperling (who lost his life in action in World War II, in France, February 2, 1945) and Carl who recently received an honorable discharge from service in the Army Air Corps; three daughters, Vera (Mrs. L. L. Stinton), of Sioux City, Iowa; Ruth (Mrs. George Sawyer), of Hawarden, Iowa, and Arta (Mrs. Forrest Akers), of Chicago, Ill.

Mr. and Mrs. Anderson observed their golden wedding anniversary at their home in Akron, on Sunday, June 3, 1945.

Besides his wife, three sons and three daughters, Mr. Anderson is also survived by two brothers, Louis C. Anderson of Chicago, Ill. and Otto Anderson, in Sweden, and by four grandchildren.

Mr. Anderson was active not only in his own business affairs over a long period of years, but always took a keen interest in public affairs, serving as a member of the town council. He was for many years a director of the Akron Savings Bank and also served as its president a few years ago. He had been a member of Freedom Lodge, No. 434, A. F. & A. M., for many years and he and his sons did the construction work on the local Masonic Temple. Mr. Anderson will be widely and genuinely missed in the community where he has spent so many years as a useful and worthwhile citizen. A host of friends extend sympathy to the family in their loss of a kind and devoted husband and father.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock in the Masonic Temple, conducted by Rev. A. A. Howe, pastor of the Methodist church, and Rev. Ellis L. Jackson, pastor of the Baptist church. The Masonic burial service will be exemplified at Riverside Cemetery.
