Dale J. Tracey, 79, of Sioux City, formerly of Le Mars, died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012, at his home.

Dale Joseph Tracey was born Sept. 15, 1933, in Remsen, the son of James and Helen (Thiel) Tracey. Dale received his education in Remsen.

He served his country in the United States Army from Jan. 21, 1954, until his honorable discharge on Dec. 8, 1955. Dale was united in marriage to Lois Ritchie on Nov. 7, 1956, in Hornick.

Following his discharge from the service Dale worked as a brick tender for O.H. Livermore Construction Co. of Le Mars. He then worked in the furniture business for Findberg Furniture and Style Master Furniture in Sioux City. He later managed the Farmer's Coop Lumberyard in Hornick for a few years.

In the 1960s, Dale moved to Le Mars and worked for Stanley Post at the Moore Lumber Company. He helped to establish the upholstery shop at the lumber yard and eventually purchased that operation from the lumber yard and named the new business as "Style-Rite Upholstery." He continued at the shop until October 2004. He later moved to Sioux City.

During his retirement years, he enjoyed working for Menard's in Sioux City.

Dale enjoyed boating on the Missouri River, fishing and bowling.

Survivors include a son, Roger Tracey, of Sioux City; a sister, Marge Solem, of Decorah; in-laws: Paula Tracey, of Burlington, Larry Ruchti, of Le Mars, Joy and Joyce Ritchie, of Cedar Rapids, Darrell Ritchie, of Sergeant Bluff and Paul and Helen Ritchie, of Smithland; and several nieces and nephews.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, James and Helen (Thiel) Tracey; his wife, Lois on Jan. 9, 1998; a brother, Dick Tracey; and a sister-in-law Judy Ruchti.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery in Le Mars with Pastor Jan Christensen of the Presbyterian United Church of Christ officiating. Arrangements are with the Carlsen Funeral Home of Le Mars.
