MRS. VON HAGEL PASSES DIVIDE

PIONEER RESIDENT OF WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, DIES AFTER LINGERING ILLNESS

Mrs. Von Hagel, wife of Gerhard Von Hagel, residing at 220 Second Avenue NW., died at her home Wednesday morning following a lingering illness at the age of 74 years. Mrs. Von Hagel had been in failing health for some time. With her husband and family she celebrated their golden wedding day three weeks ago.

Mrs. Von Hagel was born in Germany December 12, 1858. Her birth place is Glansdorf, Ostfriesland, where she was educated and grew up. Her maiden name was Bertha Mueller. She was united in marriage with Gerhard Von Hagel August 5, 1883, in Remels, Ostfriesland. They lived there for seven years following their marriage. They emigrated from their native land in 1889 and came directly to Le Mars, joining many of their countrymen, who had found home and decent living conditions in northwest Iowa.

Mr. and Mrs. Von Hagel farmed for many years in Washington township and by self denial and hard work established a happy home and gained a fair competence. They moved to Le Mars thirteen years ago where they maintained a comfortable home and enjoyed the leisure which they rightfully earned.

Mrs. Von Hagel was a devoted wife and mother. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran church and its kindred societies and was active in community and church circles.

Mrs. Von Hagel is survived by her husband, Gerhard Von Hagel, and her daughters, Mrs. Marie Susemihl, Mrs. Pauline Kamradt, and sons, Peter Von Hagel, John Von Hagel and Ben Von Hagel of this county. There are thirteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She also leaves a brother, Rev. P. Mueller, of Winthrop, Minn.

The funeral will be held this afternoon in St. John’s Lutheran church at 1:30, Rev. J. J. Vollmar officiating and interment made in the Johnson township Lutheran cemetery.
