OLD SETTLER DIES J. F. PAGELER LOCATED HERE IN THE SEVENTIES

HE WAS A SUCCESSFUL FARMER

J. P. Pageler, one of the pioneer residents of Plymouth county, died at his home in Washington township on Wednesday evening about eight o'clock. Mr. Pageler had been in poor health for the past few years suffering from lung trouble and his death was not unexpected.

John Fredrich Pageler wag born at Marx, Wiltmar, Germany, on April 10, 1853 and had attained the age of sixty eight years and four months. When a youth of fifteen in 1868, he came to America with other members of his family and shortly after his arrival in this country, came to Iowa and joined an extensive colony of his countrymen in Jones county where he worked on farms and at other occupations. Mr. Pageler came to Plymouth county in the latter part of the seventies and this was his home until his death. He worked on farms, rented land, and subsequently by toil and industry, embarked in farming on his own account and made a success in his avocation. For the past twenty-two years he lived on a farm in Washington township. He was united in marriage on July 22, 1892, with Miss Johanna Johnson. To their union ten children were born, nine of whom with the mother mourn the loss of a kind husband and father. The children are Mrs. Henry Eilers and Mrs. Johns Eilers, of Craig. Gert Pageler, farming the home place, Henry Pageler, Wessington Springs, S. D., Charles Frederic, Herman, Emma and Lillie living at home. He is also survived by two brothers and a sister, John Pageler, of this city, Gert Pageler and Mrs. Marienau, of Hildreth, Neb. A brother, Henry, of this county died a few years ago.

The funeral services will be held this afternoon at the residence at two o'clock and services will be held at the Johnson Lutheran township church, Rev. Meyer, the pastor, officiating.

Mr. Pageler was a successful farmer, a good neighbor and was highly respected in the community where he lived for forty-five years and did his share in developing the country.
