Note: Her obituary spells the last name Stoutenberg her daughter's obituary spells it Stoutenburg because I'm not sure which spelling is correct I have put both spellings in for family research.

DEATH OF MRS, STOUTENBERG

The Family Lived Here and Have Many Friends in Le Mars.

Akron Register-Tribune: Lena Hull was born in Ohio, December 30, 1838. When about two years of age she accompanied her parents to New York, their native state. Her mother died when she was five years of age and she was brought up by her grandfather, Conrad Elmendorf.

On the 15th day of November, 1856, she was united in marriage with John M. Stoutenberg who died at the family home in Union county, S. D., March 22, 1906. To their union four children were born-H. R. Stoutenberg, of Sioux Valley township, Union-county, S. D., Miss Clara Stoutenburg and Mrs. Edith Carratte, of Spokane, Washington, and Mrs. Harry Waterbury, of Akron. She is also survived by five grandchildren, one sister and three brothers.

Her early married life was spent near Olive Branch, New York, In 1881 she and her husband moved to Le Mars, Ia., living there tor ten years when they came to Akron in 1891, where they lived for about two years and then moved onto a farm northwest of Akron in Union county, S. D., which remained her home until her death on Monday evening, February 14, 1910.

For quite a time she had suffered with tumor, which complicated by a severe cold, resulted in her demise at the age of 71 years, 1 month and 15 days.

Mrs. Stoutenburg was possessed of nobility and strength of character much above the common. To her own family circle she was intensely devoted, yet from the goodness of her heart the distressed and needy within her scope of observation did not fail of aid and comfort. Her long life was filled with real usefulness and a benediction to those near and dear. The community mingles its sympathy with the sorrow of the bereaved family in the departure of this good woman.

The only relative from a distance arriving to attend the funeral was a daughter, Miss Clara Stoutenburg, of Spokane. The other daughter living in that city was unable to come on account of illness.

The funeral was held last Friday afternoon in the Akron M. E. church, of which denomination she and her husband became members –during their early married life in New York. Rev. J. S. Bain conducted the service and there was a large assemblage of friends. Interment was in Riverside cemetery.
