UNION COUNTY FARMER PASSES AWAY IN HOSPITAL

Chas. L. Waterbury Had Lived In Same Locality All His Life

There was a brief mention made in the columns of this paper last week of the death of Charles Waterbury, a well known farmer of Sioux Valley township, Union county, S. D.. who passed away at the Akron Hospital Saturday, May 26, 1945, at 11:05 a. m., after a several weeks illness from a complication of ailments, and an operation May 3 at a Sioux City hospital, at the age of 68 years, 7 months and 16 days.

Charley Lester Waterbury, son of George and Ellen Waterbury, was born October 10, 1870, in Union county, S. D., on the old Isaac Waterbury farm. There ho grew to manhood. On October 10, 1900, he was united in marriage with Miss Delia Hoffman, of Akron, and they moved onto a farm near his childhood home, where he continued to reside up to the time of his death.

He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife, Delia; three brothers, Clarence, Irvin and Albert; two sisters, Mrs. Carrie Haynes and Mrs. Nellie Kaelke. all of the Akron community. He also leaves many nieces, nephews and other members of a devoted family. Nine of his nephews are in the service of our country.

Mr. Waterbury was a man of sterling character and industrious habits, a devoted husband, and a valued friend and neighbor. He will be sincerely missed in the community where he spent his entire life.

Those whom we love go out of sight, But never out of mind; They are cherished in the hearts Of those they leave behind. Loving and kind in all their ways, Upright and kind to the end of their days, Sincere and true in heart and mind, Beautiful memories they left behind.

Funeral services wore held here in the First Christian church on Thursday afternoon of last week, Rev. C. R. Dayton, the pastor, officiating. The church was filled to capacity by a host of friends, neighbors and relatives who came to pay their last respects to one who numbered his friends by his acquaintances. Hymns were sung by Mr. and Mrs. Homer Jacoby, with accompaniment by Mrs. Elmer Fickbohm.

The floral offerings were many and beautiful.

Acting as pallbearer were nephews of the deceased, as follows: Fay Waterbury, Floyd Waterbury, Leo Kaelke, Eoy Kaelke, John Hoffman and Carl Hoffman.

Among those in attendance at the funeral from a distance were: Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hoffman, Mr. and Mrs. John Hoffman, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hoffman, Mrs. Ernest Hoffman, of Sioux City; Mr, and Mrs. Roy Oden, Mrs. Harley Marshall, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Dimmiek, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Carpenter and Mrs. Lizzie Oaks, of Hawarden; Mrs. Martin Hummel, if Redondo Beach, Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Corley, of Alcester; Mrs. Will McConahie, of Elk Point, and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Saterbo, of Inwood, Iowa.
