Clifford H. Lindlief, 84, of Sioux City, died Friday, Oct. 29,1999, at his home, after a brief illness.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Sara Malone, pastor of Hinton United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the American Legion Casper Post 477 of Hinton, Iowa. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Lindlief was born Nov. 2, 1914, at Alta, Iowa, the son of Harry and Carrie (Rassmussen) Lindlief. He graduated from Fairview Consolidated High School in 1933 and attended Morningside College.
He married Leona Kovarna on Sept. 3,1940, in Sioux City. The couple lived in Cherokee, Iowa from 1945 to 1953, moving to Sioux City in 1953.
He served in the Army Air Force during World War II, from 1941 to 1945, as a First Flight Officer, serving in the South Pacific.
After his military service he managed the Cherokee Airport from 1945 to 1953. He was a pilot in Sioux City for Ed Graham, at Rickenbacker Field. He was purchasing agent and pilot for Sioux City Dressed Pork.
He was a member of Hinton United Methodist Church.
He was also a member of the Board of Directors at Sioux Preme Packing Co., in Sioux Center, Iowa. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club in Cherokee and Commander of the American Legion in Cherokee. He was a member of the American Legion Casper Post 477 of Hinton, and served on the Hinton School Board. He had been a member of Abu Bekr Shrine Temple and Landmark Lodge 103 A.F..& A.M.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters and their husbands: Lana and David Pavlik of Ames, Iowa and Mary and Dennis Eichinger of Princeton, Minn; a sister, Rosetta Woods of Marysville, Calif.; four grandchildren: Erik and Amy Pavlik and Anja and Karl Eichinger; four nieces and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Velma Tigges; and a brother, Edwon.
Pallbearers will be Erik, David and Dan Pavlik, Dennis Eichinger, Steve Kovarna and Joe Flannery.
Memorials may be directed to Abu Bekr Shrine Temple.
