Betty Stinton, 85, of Le Mars, died Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at her home.
Betty Frances Steinfadt was born May 30, 1926, in Hawarden, the daughter of Herman and Dora (Andriessen) Steinfadt. Shortly thereafter, the family moved to Le Mars. Betty received her education in Le Mars, graduating from Le Mars High School.

On Aug. 12, 1946, Betty and Lyle Vernon Stinton were united in marriage. Betty stayed home to care for her family until taking a position with Archie's Waeside Restaurant in Le Mars in 1969. Betty cooked at Archie's for several years and was still working in the kitchen on a part-time basis. She also cooked at Lally's Eastside Restaurant, retiring from there five years ago.

Betty was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars.

She enjoyed crocheting and made a new blanket for each high school graduate in the family. She was always baking and you could not visit her home without having some homemade banana bars or bread.

One of her greatest joys in life was caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Betty will be lovingly remembered by her children, Michael and Patsy Stinton, of Seney, Gene and Diane Stinton, of Le Mars, Lynda Martin and Jay Smith, of Sioux City, Gloria Stinton, of Sioux City, Donna Lariviere and Dave, of Bird Island, Minn., Pam Baldwin, of Le Mars, Larry and Kerri Stinton, of Le Mars, Brenda Stinton, of Merrill, and David and Jenny Stinton, of Le Mars; 23 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sisters, Gladys Kock, of Le Mars, Delores Day, of Roswell, N.M., and Mavis Tonne, of Fairmont, Minn.; brothers, Don and Ginny Steinfadt, of Vinton, and Marlin "Punk" Steinfadt, of Le Mars, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Lyle on Nov. 10, 1987; a son, Richard; granddaughters, Rachel and Jennifer; grandson, Richard Martin; a sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and George Moritz; brother, Harold Steinfadt; a sister-in-law Diane Steinfadt; and brothers-in-law, Clarence Kock and Rudy Tonne.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. The Rev. Gary Landsness will officiate. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today (Thursday) at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present to greet friends from 5-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral service.
