Gloria G. Strub, 82, of Marcus, died Monday, April 9, 2012, at the Heartland Care Center in Marcus.

Gloria Grace Strub was born Oct. 6, 1929, at Cherokee, the daughter of Dean Wallace and Mildred (Yarington) Swanson. She started school at Rock Valley, and the family moved to Le Mars, when she was in second grade. She graduated from Central High School in Le Mars in 1947. Following graduation, Gloria was employed as a bookkeeper.

Gloria and Stephen C. Strub were married Feb. 22, 1949. They farmed west of Merrill, in Washington Township for 16 years prior to moving to a farm east of Marcus in 1965. Gloria was a homemaker, business manager, and partner in farming during their 63-year marriage. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Gloria was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, Red Hats, PEO and card clubs.

She loved music and played the piano and organ for various occasions, often volunteering to play at Heartland Care Center and Church events. She enjoyed embroidery, cross-stitch, crafts, decorating her flower beds, gardening, and playing cards.

Although diverse in all aspects of the kitchen, her greatest accomplishments were in baking where she spoiled her family for years with her delicious creations. Gloria's greatest enjoyment in life came from her family.

She is survived by her husband, Steve of Marcus; a son, Craig and his wife, Gay Lynn, of Marcus; a daughter, Michele, and her husband, Stephen Miller, of Yakima, Wash.; five grandchildren, Erica (Strub) Garniss, of Defiance, Mo., Eridy Strub of Cherokee, Neil Strub, of Sioux City, Benjamin Miller and Matthew Miller, both of Yakima, Wash.; three great-grandchildren, Allison and Deanna Partridge, and Oniera Ford, all of Cherokee; a sister, Phyllis and her husband, Robert Emery, of Washington, D.C., two nieces and a nephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dean Wallace and Mildred May (Yarington) Swanson.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Grace United Methodist Church in Marcus. The Rev. Ron Rice will officiate. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens, rural Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Friday, at the Earnest - Johnson Funeral Home in Marcus. The family will be present from 5-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral on Saturday.
