Funeral services for Mrs. Margaret Anna Diercksen, 85, former and longtime Remsen woman who died in a Sioux City hospital Sunday, were held in Remsen Tuesday afternoon. Services were in Christ Lutheran Church with its pastor, The Rev. Alfred Christiansen officiating, and burial was in the community cemetery.
Mrs. Diercksn had been in poor health for several months. During the past year she had made her home with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Miller in Sioux City.
Mrs. Diercksen was born August 29, 1874, in the town of Bredstedt, Germany, and came to this country as a young woman. She was married to John Thomas Direcksen in New York City, May 8, 1898.
The couple came to Remsen to join old-country friends who had settled here, and farrmed south of town many years, retiring to Remsen. They lived here 13 years, then moved to Le Mars nine years ago and shortly later the widow joined her children in Sioux City.
Mrs. Diercksen was well known and highly regarded in the Remsen community where she had lived many years, and was highly respected as a good Christian woman, a devoted wife and mother and a true friend to her many acquaintances.
Surviving are two sons, John of Hawarden, Ia., and Carl Heesch of Marcus, Ia., and seven daughters: Mrs. Henry (Catherine) Sanow, Remsen; Mrs. John (Martha) Klaschen, Woolsey, S.D.; Mrs. Lillian Nelson, Cherokee; Mrs. Miller of Sioux City, Mrs. Leo (Alma) Wilhelmi, Le Mars; Mrs. Ena Sampson, Akron, Ia., and Mrs. Wm. (Marie) Klingbeil, Phoenix, Ariz.
Services were at 1:30 at Moeller funeral home which had charge of arrangements and at two o’clock in Christ Lutheran church.
Music was by a women’s quartette including Mrs. Alfred Christiansen, Mrs. D. A. Bacan, Mrs. George Bottjen, Jr., and Mrs. Roy Steffen, organist was Mrs. Herman Kluver.
Pall bearers were Earl Wiebke, Dale Sanow, Keith Klaschen, Le Roy Nelson, Robert Powell and Donald Heesch. – Le Mars Globe Post, Feb 22, 1960, page 11.
