DEATH CALLS REMSEN PIONEER. Mrs. Eliza Mohr Passes Away at 80 Years of Age. Remsen Bell-Enterprise: Death removed another one of the older residents of Remsen, and one who had lived here for 17 years, when Mrs. Eliza Mohr passed away at her home last Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock. Her death was due to infirmities brought on by advanced age, Mrs. Mohr having been past 80 years old.
Eliza Mohr, nee Thomsen, was born July 26, 1838, in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, and came to this country in 1872, settling in Scott county, Iowa. She was married in Davenport, in 1896, and her husband Fred Mohr, died but a few months later. In 1910 Mrs. Mohr, together with her step-daughter, Margaret Mohr, came to Remsen, and the two have been living together here ever since.
The deceased was a member of St. Paul’s church, and a member of the Ladies’ Aid. She was a good Christian woman and made many warm friends here who all deeply regretted to hear of her death. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon with services in St. Paul’s church, conducted by Rev. Hy Reifschneider. – Le Mars Globe Post, Monday, Oct. 23, 1927, page 1.
