FUNERAL SERVICES HELD THURSDAY. Mrs. Caroline Lang of Remsen Dies Monday Following Lingering Sickness.
Funeral services were held on Thursday afternoon at 1:30 at the home and later at St. Paul’s Evangelical church at Remsen, for Mrs. Caroline Lang, pioneer settler of Plymouth county, who passed away at her home Monday night at 11:20 following a lingering sickness of five years. Rev. Paul Wuebben, sr. of Calumet, Iowa, father of the local pastor, officiated at the services.
Mrs. Lang, nee Caroline Peterson, was born in Sweden, in the year 1840, and at the time of her death was 84 years of age. At the age of 21 she came to this country joining her parents, sisters and brothers in Union county, S. D. Later she moved to Sioux City living in that place when the population totaled only 350 people.
In 1873 she was united in marriage to Frederick Lang in Fredonia township, and the following year they settled in their own place, a homestead in Meadow township. They remained at this place until 1913 when they retired and moved to the town of Remsen. Mr. Lang preceded his wife in death in 1921.
She leaves to mourn her loss, eight children, her sisters and brothers also having preceded her in death. Three sons are, Albert Lang, Edward Lang and Walter Lang all of Remsen, and five daughters, Mrs. Mary Miller, Flendreau, S.D.; Mrs. Lena Hess, Winfred, S. D.; Mrs. Emily Belgard, Lavina, Mont.; Anna A. Lang, Berkely, Calif., and Lilly Lang also of Berkley.
Although Mrs. Lang has been in poor health for the past five years, suffering from the infirmities of old age, her death Monday resulting from heart trouble comes as a shock to her many friends. Her patience and fortitude throughout the years have endeared her to all who have come in contact with her. An active church member while her health would permit, she leaves many friends among church and also social circles who join with the family in mourning her death. – Le Mars Globe Post, Feb. 15, 1934, page 3.
