Former Westfield Man Meets Death

Eddie Welch, a former well known resident of Westfield township, and son of Mrs. Ed Welch, of that community, sustained fatal injuries in a truck accident near Pierre, S. D., Tuesday,

Mr. Welch gained considerable renown as an amateur wrestler a number of years ago. A press dispatch from Pierre says: Eddie Welch, 35, Hughes county rancher, whose legs were nearly severed in a collision of two trucks north of here Tuesday afternoon, died at a hospital Tuesday night.

He is survived by his widow and four small children.

Welch and James Hurley were standing in front of their, stalled truck when another truck driven by Windom Steele, a Pierre trucker, ran into them. Their legs were caught between the bumpers of the two vehicles. One of Hurley's legs was badly crushed. Hospital attendants described his condition as fair.
