DEATH COMES TO CHARLES DUNHAM Bites Are Held For Lifelong Resident Of Union County
Mr. Charles Dunham departed this life at the St. Joseph Hospital in Sioux City, Sunday forenoon, April 19, 1904, following an illness of several weeks. He was 77 years, 7 month and 27 days of age.
Charles Lloyd Dunham was born in Union County, South Dakota, west of Akron, Iowa, August 23, 1886. His parents were Frank and Alice Dunham. At Elk Point, on the 23rd of September, 1908, he was united in marriage with Miss Stella Alice Dunn. Together they lived and farmed in the Akron vicinity, mostly in Union County, S. D. The exception to this was residence for a short time on a farm near Westfield, Iowa..
Mrs. Dunham died in November of 1969. Mr. Dunham continued residence on his Union County farm until his death.
Mr. Dunham thus was a lifelong resident of this community. He was of a friendly and warm personality. He enjoyed visiting with his friends and neighbors and made them feel welcome. At he same time he, with his wife, knew what the hard times of the 1930's meant in extra effort and sacrifice for their family.
Left to mourn his departure are three daughters, Mrs. Ruth Crow, of Merrill, Iowa, Mrs. Lois Friske and Mrs. Betty' Jacobson, both of Akron; eight sons, George, of Los Altos, Calif.; Robert and Donald, of Elk Point, S. D.; Charles, Jr., if Sioux City, Leo, Walter, Roy and Elmer, all of Akron; one brother, Frank, of Sioux City and twenty-two grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends.
Besides his wife, a son, Orville, a daughter, Dorothy, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild preceded him in death.
