Mrs. C. Hasenbank Early Resident Taken By Death

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Lutheran church in Akron for Mrs. Chris Hasenbank, a resident of Plymouth county for more than forty years. Rev. C. W. Samuelson
officiated.

Mrs. Hasenbank died August 3, following a stroke.

Wiebke Schemer, daughter of Fredrick and Christine Schemer, was born in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, June 15, 1865. She came to America in 1893 and located at Remsen, Iowa. On June 26, 1898, she was united in marriage with Christian Hasenbank. In 1905 they moved from Remsen to a farm east of Akron, which has since remained the home. Her husband preceded her in death, on August 31, 1934.

Her departure is mourned by three sons and one daughter, John Hasenbank, of Springfield, Mass.: Arthur and Carl Hasenbank, of Akron, and Mrs. John Huettmann, of Akron, and also by two sisters. Miss Marie Schemer and Mrs. Christina Nordman, of Remsen, and four grandchildren.

Mrs. Chris. Hasenbank, a resident of Plymouth county for more than forty years, passed away Saturday evening, August 3, 1935, at about 10 o’clock following a stroke, at the age of 70 years, 1 month and 18 days. A previous stroke she had suffered a few weeks ago was the beginning of an illness from which she could not rally in spite of all that loving care could accomplish.

Wiebke Scherner, daughter of Fredrick and Christine Scherner, was born in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, June 15, 1865, where she was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church. She came to America in 1893 and located at Remsen, Iowa. On June 26, 1898, she was united in marriage with Christian Hasenbank. In 1905 they moved from Remsen to a farm east of town, which has since remained the home.

Her husband preceded her in death on August 31, 1934.

Her departure is mourned by three sons and one daughter; John Hasenbank, of Springfield, Mass.; Arthur and Carl Hasenbank, of Akron, and Mrs. John Huettmann, of Akron; also by two sisters, Miss Marie Scherner and Mrs. Christina Nordman, of Remsen, Ia., and four grandchildren.

Mrs. Hasenbank was a kind and devoted wife and mother and a helpful, sympathetic friend and neighbor, who will be sincerely missed and mourned in the community where she has spent so many years. A host of friends extend their sympathy to the bereaved family.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in the English Lutheran church in Akron, conducted by Rev. C. W. Smauelson, who used a text Psalm 73:23 – 26. There were two vocal duets by Ruth Davidson and Lula Classen, who sang, “Abid With Me” and “Going Down the Valley,” and a vocal solo by Ruth Davidson, “One Sweet, Solemn Thought.”

The pallbearers were Fred Cassen, Dave Vanderham, Henry Hitzeman, Ben Hartman, John Miniets and Emory Neal. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery.
