Chris E. Beeck, 78, Akron, Iowa, died Friday (Dec. 21, 1990, at the Veterans hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D. Funeral services were held at 3 p. m. Monday, Dec. 24 at the First Baptist church in Akron. Rev. Burl Ratzsch officiated. Virginia Swift, soloist, sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Amazing Grace", accompanied by Pastor Burl Ratzsch. Burial was in St. Joseph Catholic cemetery under direction of Schroeder funeral home of Akron. Graveside services we're conducted by American Legion Hoschler Post 186 of Akron and the VFW of Elk Point, S.D.

Pallbearers were Virgil Smith, Dennis Maas, Lloyd Meyer, Arden Gale, Dennis Hultgren, and Elmer Anderson.

Mr. Beeck was born Aug. 19, 1912 at Ellis Island, N.Y. to Fred and Minnie (Johns) Beeck. He moved with his parents as an infant to Plymouth county, near Akron. He attended the Tucker country school near Akron, and lived his entire life in Plymouth county. He married Esther Richters, April 5, 1947 at Elk Point, S.D. They farmed for several years. He worked for Higman Sand and Gravel for 21 years, retiring in 1974.

Mr. Beeck was a sergeant in the U.S. army during World War II, he entered the service March 11, 1942 and was discharged Dec. 10, 1945. He was a member of Hoschler American Legion Post 186 of Akron and the VFW of Elk Point, S.D.

Survivors include his wife, Esther of Akron; two sons, Dennis (Mert) Beeck and his wife, Belle and Jim Richters and his, wife, Paulette, all of Akron; a daughter, Linda Parker and her husband, Larry of Sioux City; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Sophia Johnson of Craig; and four brothers, Hank, Emil, Albert and Alvin, all of Akron.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Gus, Bill and Carl.
