Mrs. Fredericka Winterfeld, a pioneer resident of Plymouth county, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mathilda Lenth of Marcus on Wednesday morning at the age of 86 years. Death was due to infirmities of old age, Mrs. Winterfeld having been in failing health for some time.
Fredericka Weinrieben was born in Mecklenberg, Schwerin, Germany, on November 10, 1837, and when a girl came to America, settling in Clayton county, Iowa, in 1855 and shortley afterwards was united in marriage with John Winterfeld. They farmed for a number of years in Clayton county. In 1874 Mr. Winterfeld bought land in Grant township, the county in section 7. They took up their residence on the land in 1879 and farmed a section of land with success, aided by their children. In 1900 they retired from the farm and came to Le Mars to live whre Mr. Winterfeld died in 1911. Mrs. Winterfeld lived of late years with her daughter.
She is survived by a large family their of sons and daughters who are: J. J. Winterfeld, August and H. F. Winterfeld, of Sioux Center; L. J. and Albert residing at Craig; Mrs. George Renschler, of Le Mars; Mrs. Mathilda Lenth, of Marcus; Mrs. Lizzle Schldt and Miss Emma Winterfeld, of Minneapolis. She also leaves alarge number of' grandchildren and great – grandchildren.
The funeral services will be held this afternoon at one o'clock at St. John's church, Rev. J. J. Vollmar, pastor, and Rev. Ilten, of Marcus, officiating, and the interment will be made in the city cemetery where her husband is buried.
Mrs. Winterfeld was a good christian woman, who enjoyed a long and useful life and was respected by all who knew her.
