Beloved Remsen Woman Called. Death Claims Mrs. John Gaden Suddenly In Le Mars Hospital Tuesday.
Remsen Bell-Enterprise: Death came as a severe blow to an exteemable Remsen family and to hundreds of friends, early Wednesday when Mrs. John Gaden, resident here during her entire adult life and one of the community’s outstanding women, passed away suddenly in the Sacred Heart hospital. She was 51 years old. Surviving are her heartbroken husband and three children, a sister, two brothers, and five step-sisters and brothers. Funeral services will be held Friday.
Mrs. Gaden, nee Antoinette Cook, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Cook, was born in Le Mars on March 11, 1889. She attended school and spent her early girlhood there, the family later moving to near Portland, Ore. While living there the father passed away, and a few years later the mother brought her family back to Le Mars. They later occupied a farm south of town and on April 6, 1910, Antionette became the wife of John Gaden, a native of this community. The couple settled on a farm south of town and later purchased their present home, six miles southeast of here.
Surviving, besides the sorrowing husband, are the three children- Mrs. Walter (Glydelle) Erichsen and Miss Dorothy, Remsen, and Jack, Waterloo, Iowa. There is one grandson, Richard Erichsen. The only sister is Mrs. August (Mabel) Tonsfeldt, Remsen, and the brother are Dave Cook, Iowa City, and Henry Cook, Alexandria, S.D. A brother and a sister preceded her in death. Surviving also are the following step-sisters and brother: Mrs. Caroline Harnack, Mrs. John Harnack and Frank Lang, Remsen; John Lang, Blabon, N.D., and Mrs. Rose Brandt, Bakersfield, Calif.
Funeral services will be held on Friday afternoon at the family home at 1:30 o’clock, followed by services at St. Paul’s church, with the pastor, Rev. Paul Wuebben, in charge. Burial will be in the Remsen cemetery. – Le Mars Globe-Post, Sept. 12, 1940, page 3.
