Funeral services for Mrs. Gladys Cross, 84, of Mallard were held June 22 at 2 p.m. in the United Methodist Church of Mallard with the Rev. Walter Sieck officiating. Burial was in Rush Lake Cemetery with the Schellhammer Funeral Home of Mallard in charge.
Gladys Mary, the daughter of Alfred and Anna Fry was born April 23, 1889, at Westfield, la., where she grew up and received her early education. She then attended Westmar College at Le Mars and taught in the rural Westfield schools from 1908-1913. On Nov. 27, 1913, she was united in marriage to Jesse Cross at Westfield. Mr. and Mrs. Cross farmed near Mallard from 1913 until their retirement, when they moved into town. Mrs. Cross was active in all the activities of the church. She died Wednesday morning, June 20, at Lakeside Lutheran Nursing Home in Emmetsburg.
Surviving are three sons, Glenn of Louisville, Ky., Lyle of Cedar Falls and Keith of Mallard; one daughter, Eileen, Mrs. Jim Perry, of Havelock; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Maude Knapp and Mrs. Ersa Stroble of Westfield and Miss Violet Fry of Sioux City.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse, who died in 1971, and a brother and sister.
