Friends in Le Mars received word Tuesday that R. L. (Raymond) Claussen 65, former longtime Le Mars business man passed away at Ozona, Florida early Tuesday, June 16, 1959 following a heart attack,
Mr. and Mrs. Stamp, longtime friends, received a wire and this stated that burial was in Clearwater, Florida at 2 p.m. Thursday, with full Masonic rites. Moss funeral home was in charge of arrangements.
Andrew Siebens had received a wire earlier in the day requesting permission from the Le Mars lodge for Masonic burial in Florida. Mr. Claussen was a longtime member of the Giblem Masonic lodge here.
Friends of the family here said that they had been informed that Mr. Claussen had suffered a heart attack in April but that he was much improved at this time.
Mr. Claussen established Claussen’s Cleaners here in 1922 and had operated the business until selling the dry cleaning firm to Don Stevens five years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Claussen moved to Ozona a year later to be near their daughter Mavis and family.
Mr. Claussen was born December 16, 1893. He was united in marriage to Isabel Kist on June 9, 1922 at Chicago. Mr. Claussen had worked in a bank prior to entering service during the first world war. He then went to Spencer where he joined a dry cleanng establishment. He came to Le Mars to start the Claussen Dry cleaning firm in 1922, a business which he managed successfully for 32 years.
Survivors include his wife, Isabel and a daughter, Mrs. Douglas Roach, and twin granddaughters.
