BETTY SITZMANN
Services Saturday for lifelong area resident
Betty Jane Sitzmann, 72, of LeMars, died Tuesday, Sept. 6, 1994, at Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars after a brief illness.
Mrs. Sitzmann, the former Betty Jane Schindel, was born Aug. 10, 1922, in Plymouth County, the daughter of Oscar and Esther (Spies) Schindel. She grew up in the Merrill and Hinton area and graduated from Merrill High School. On Nov. 28, 1944, she married William J. Sitzmann at St. Joseph’s Catholic church, Neptune. The couple farmed for many years in Union Township. They later operated Sitzmann’s Station at rural Hinton and then the DX Service Station in Merrill, with Mrs. Sitzmann work ding as Bookkeeper for the service stations.
In 1964 she joined NIPCO as a Bookkeeper, where she worked until her retirement in 1984. Mr. Sitzmann died Jan. 20, 1984.
Mrs. Sitzmann was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic church, the church guild, Christian Mothers of America, R.C.I.A., Coop Employees Credit Union board member, and Floyd Valley Hospital Auxiliary and Peer Group.
Survivors include one daughter, Jane Mueller and her husband Rick, of Alta Monte Springs, Fla.; four sons, Randy Sitzmann and his wife Judi of Mesa, Ariz., Michael Sitzmann and his wife, Connie of LeMars, Tim Sitzmann and his wife JoLynn of Ankeny, and Scott Sitzmann of LeMars; 11 grandchildren; two brothers, Marvin Schindel and his wife, Delma, of San Bernadino, Calif., and Wayne Spies and his wife, Florence, of Hinton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a brother, Tom Schindel.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph’s Catholic church in LeMars with the Rev. Dale J. George officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in LeMars. Friends may call anytime after 2 p.m. Friday at the Feuerstein Funeral Home in LeMars. There will be a Christian Mothers rosary at 4 p.m., a scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. and the Catholic Daughter’s rosary at 8 p.m., all at the funeral home.
