LE MARS, Iowa—Ashton H. Coppock, 76, of LeMars and Mesa, Ariz., died Tuesday, June 30, 1992, at Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minn.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. James Catholic church, LeMars, with Monsignor Michael Sernett officiating. Burial will be in Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service, at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home, LeMars.
Mr. Coppock was born Jan. 19, 1916, at LeMars, son of Arnold J. and Ethel (Ferguson) Coppock. He graduated from LeMars High School. He married Dorothy Ahern June 20, 1939, at LeMars. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. Dorothy Coppock died May 20, 1975. He then married Maggie May (Nanninga) Hinde, Jan. 30, 1976, at Denver. He worked at the Plymouth Co-Op and Beacon Airways. He worked for the Hudson, American Motors and Allis Chalmer dealer in LeMars until 1962, when he moved to Denver to work for American Motors, and for Rickenbaugh Cadillac as a service advisor. After he retired in 1977, he lived in Mesa and LeMars.
He was a longtime member of St. James Catholic church. He was a life member and past Exalted Ruler of the BPO Elks and life member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the American Legion, Wasmer Post 241, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Survivors include his wife, Maggie, of Mesa; his mother, Ethel C. Buss, of LeMars; a daughter and her husband, Connie and Stephen Dutka, of Aurora, Colo.; two step children, Keith and his wife Lana Hinde of Phoenix and Connie Lucas of Yukon, Okla.; two grandchildren, Chris and Matt Dutka; and four step grandchildren, Kristin Hinde, Karri Dugger, Douglas Lucas and Leanne Groenmeyer; four step great grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Helen (Mrs. Adrian) Kale, of LeMars.
In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Clyde Coppock.
