HELEN M. VARENHORST

LE MARS, Iowa—Helen M. Varenhorst, 78, of LeMars, died Saturday in a LeMars hospital.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John’s American Lutheran Church in LeMars with the Rev. Tom Lee officiating. Burial will be in LeMars Memorial Cemetery. Visitation is after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Varenhorst, the former Helen Marie Alvord, was born Dec. 13, 1908, in Benton County, Iowa. She came to the Plymouth County area at the age of 12. She married William Varenhorst on Sept. 26, 1936, in Johnson Township, rural Merrill. She and her husband farmed in Plymouth County until retiring and moving into LeMars in 1974.

She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Mrs. Alfred (Geraldine) Ahrendsen, and Mrs. Richard (Bonnie) Ruether, both of LeMars, and Mrs. Allen (Marlene) Bardett, of Gilroy, Calif.; and five grandchildren.

NOTE: Per her funeral program, her date of death was Feb. 21, 1987.
