HENRY O. JELKEN, SR.

BRUNSVILLE, Iowa—Henry O. Jelken, Sr., 93, of Brunsville, died Tuesday in a care center in LeMars.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, rural Akron. The Rev. Robert Kruempel will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today with the family present from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars.

Mr. Jelken was born Jan. 31, 1893, in Leerhafe, Germany. He came to the United States and to Plymouth County in 1911. He married Anna Kruse Jan. 22, 1918, in rural LeMars. She died in 1954. He married Josephine Kirby May 15, 1958, in Anaheim, Calif. The couple moved to Sioux City in 1958. She died in 1975 and he moved to Brunsville in 1984. He was a retired farmer.

Mr. Jelken was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Survivors include seven daughters: Mrs. Florence Jennings of Minneapolis; Mrs. Dick (Amanda) Westhoff, Mrs. Harry (Lillian) Ludwigs and Mrs. Vincent (Clara) Krienert, all of LeMars; Mrs. Irene Hanson, of St. Louis Park, Minn.; Mrs. Orville (Leona) Pierce of New London, Minn.; and Mrs. Ray (Mary Ann) Meyers of Annandale, Minn.; four sons, Alvin of Brunsville; Henry Jr. and Harold, both of LeMars; and Dick of Akron; five stepchildren; 39 grandchildren; 79 great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren.

NOTE: Per his funeral program, the date of death was Jan. 27, 1987.
