Mrs. Lester Parker, 59, Sioux City, died last Tuesday morning at a Sioux City hospital after a brief illness. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Friday at Augustana Lutheran church. Rev. Wade H. Koons officiated and burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery under direction of the W. Harry Christy Funeral Home in Morningside.
The former Arvilla Meldean Oakes, Mrs. Parker was born December 5,1911, in Union county, S.D. She lived in Union county during her early life and was married to Mr. Parker June 17, 1931, at Dakota City. The couple then moved to Akron where they lived until moving to Sioux City in 1959. While at Akron, Mrs. Parker worked for Otis Radio Corp., at Hawarden. In Sioux City she was a saleslady at Younker-Davidson and Bellas Hess department stores. Mrs. Parker was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church, and was active in the church ladies aid. She was also active in sewing and knitting.
Survivors are her husband; four sons, Darrell E. of Kirkland, Wash., Ronald L. of Hinton, Russell K. and Larry E.,both of Sioux City; three daughters, Mrs. Jerry (Marjorie) Barber of Sioux City, Mrs. Darrell (Marilyn) Bonderson of Le Mars, and Mrs. Earl (Maxine) Buck of McIIenry, El.; her mother, Mrs. Amelia Oakes of Hawthorne, Calif.; three brothers, L. James Oakes and Milo Oakes,both of Hawthorne, and Eldean Oakes of Chatsworth, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Mildred Stoner of Lancaster, Calif., and Marian Oakes of Hawthorne; and 26 grandchildren.
