LE MARS FUNERAL FRIDAY
Alvin Robert Singer, 48, LeMars, a Remsen native, died unexpectedly Tuesday (June 5, 1990) at Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars. He was stricken while at work in Orange City.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph’s church in LeMars, with Rev. Dale George officiating. Burial will be in Remsen St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Thursday with a parish rosary at 3 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 8 p.m. in the Fisch Funeral Home at Remsen.
Mr. Singer was born July 13, 1941, in rural Remsen, the son of Francis and Elizabeth Gotto Singer. He grew up in the Remsen area where he attended school. He was in partnership with his father and a brother in farming near Remsen. As a partnership, they built the Maple Lanes Bowling Alley in Remsen in 1960. They operated the business until selling it in 1969. He continued to work for the new owners until 1977.
Mr. Singer was also engaged in farming for Roman Staab and several other farmers in the Remsen area.
On April 27, 1966, he married Barbara VanDam in Marcus. He and his family moved to LeMars in the spring of 1980 at which time he began employment with Harker’s Inc. at their Orange City plant.
He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic church of LeMars. Mr. Singer was an avid auto enthusiast and car show participant.
Survivors are his wife, Barbara, LeMars; a son, Robert, and his wife Tammy Singer of LeMars; a brother, Edward Singer of Forest Park, Ga.; and a sister, Mrs. Kevin (Kathie) of Remsen.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
