The funeral of Emil Boehmke was held Saturday from St. Paul’s church. Serves were conducted by Rev. Hy. Reifschneider, of Omaha. The deceased was 83 years of age and a pioneer resident of this community. – Le Mars Globe Post – July 25, 1929

Funeral rites were held Saturday afternoon in St. Paul Evangelical church in Remen for Emil Boehmke, Iowa pioneer. Mr. Boehmke was a member of the Plymouth county board of supervisors at one time and known to many Le Mars people. Mr. Boehmke dropped dead Tuesday night at his home in Remsen. He was 83 years old.
Emil Boehmke was born in Germany on February 9, 1846, and came to this country at the age of 19 years. He settled in Benton county, where he had friends, and worked at farming for a few years and later acquired a farm for himself. It was there that he was united in marriage to Anna Wiebben, also of that place, and after their marriage the couple continued to farm there for a few years. Later they came to Remsen and settled on a farm south of that town and for many years they lived there and prospered.
Surviving are his widow and the following children: August Boehmke, Holland, Minn.; Gus Boehmke, Pipestone,Minn.; Julius Beohmke, Inwood, Iowa; Mrs. Jacobsen and Peter Boehmke, of Sioux Falls; Mrs. S.G. Bammer, Estherville, Iowa; Mrs. Wm E. Jurgensen, of Vermillion, S.D. and Mrs. Fred G. Eichhorn. OLD REMSEN CITIZEN IS TAKEN SUDDENLY. Emil Boehmke Passes Away At Age of 83 Years; Was Pioneer Resident There.
Remsen Bell-Enterprise: Another one of the early residents of Remsen, and one of the most substantial and highly respected citizens of this community, passed away this week, when Emil Boehmke, a resident here for nearly 40 years, died suddenly at his home Tuesday evening.
Mr. Boehmke is survived by a widow and eight children.
Mr. Boehmke never complained of being in poor health, and his family never knew that he was ailing, except that during the past few weeks it was noticed that he was rather feeble. Tuesday evening he went to the home of his daughter, Mrs. Fred. G. Eichhorn, next door to the Boehmke home, for a short visit. Mr. and Mrs. Boehmke remained there for a short time and started for home at nine o’clock. Just as they were about to enter their home Mr. Boehmke fell on the floor and before a physician could arrive he had passed away. Prior to that moment he had been in apparently good health.

During his life on the farm Mr. Boehmke took an active interest in civic and political life, and for a time he served as county supervisor, representing Remsen township, and as a member of the school board. He was also a lifelong member of the Evangelical church and was one of St. Paul’s congregation’s most staunch supporters.
Mr. Boehmke was one of the outstanding citizens of this community, and was a man who commanded the respect and the highest esteem of his many acquaintances. He was possessed of many rare qualities of character, and one of the outstanding ones of these was his general friendliness and his willingness to give a helping hand to those who were in need. His many admirable traits brought him many friends, and his death is deeply regretted by his relatives as well as by those who had grown to know him through his many years of residences in this community.

Boehmke, Pipestone Minn.; Julius Boehmke, Inwood, Iowa; Mrs. Jacobsen and Peter Boehmke, of Sioux Falls; Mrs. B G. Bammer, Estherville, Iowa; Mrs. Wm. E. Jurgensen, of Vermillion, S.D.; and Mrs. Fred Eichhorn. Two children precede their father to the grave-one son and one daughter.
The funeral took place Saturday afternoon with services at the home at 1:30 o’clock and followed immediately by services in St. Paul’s Evangelical church. – Le Mars Globe Post, July 22, 1929, page 9.
