Mrs. Katherine Ottsen, mother of Mrs. Ernst Burdorf died of old age in Paullina, Iowa, Tuesday, August 21, at the great age of 80 years 9 months and 8 days. The body was brought to Remsen Wednesday and laid to rest in the Remsen cemetery Thursday morning, Rev. Brauer solemnizing the obsequies. Deceased was born in Hosum, province of Schleswig, Germany. – Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, August 28, 1906, page 3.

Note: Katherine is buried in the Remsen City Cemetery. The spelling of the surname on the gravestone is “Ottzen” and her first name on the gravestone is Anna. Her birth date on the gravestone is Feb. 14, 1826 and her death date is Aug. 21, 1906.
