Le Mars Relatives Were Present at Funeral of Hans Rohlfsen, 103.
Relatives from Le Mars who attended the funeral of Hans Rohlfsen, 103, of Sibley, Wednesday, were Mr. and Mrs. Glen Gearke, Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Becker, Herbert Rohlfsen, George Nussbaum and Mr. and Mrs. Henry F. Meyer.
Mr. Rohlfsen, 103, one of Iowa’s oldest residents, died at his home in Sibley Sunday after a sickness of 10 days.
An Iowa resident since 1871, he was one of the first residents of Marcus. A son, William, of Sioux City estimated that Mr. Rohlfson has 111 direct descendants living.
He moved to Marcus in 1871 and made the last leg of the trip, from Fort Dodge, by horse and wagon. He bought a farm six miles north of Marcus which he owned at the time of his death.
Mr. and Mrs. Rohlfsen retired from the farm in 1905 and moved to Le Mars. Mrs. Rohlfsen died in Le Mars in 1917 and Mr. Rohlfsen since had resided with a daughter, Mrs. Louise Tangemann, who moved to Sibley 22 years ago. – Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, Jan. 6, 1950, page 5.Also –

Hans Rohlfsen of Sibley, Ia., celebrated his 103rd birthday Monday (today). He is the grandfather of Mrs. Glen Gearke, Mrs. Robert Becker, Herbert and Stanley Rohlfsen, all of Le Mars.
Mr. Rohlfsen is one of the oldest residents in Iowa and one of the United States. He lived in Le Mars about 10 years ago, on old Franklin Street, now 5th Ave. S.E. All join in wishing him many more years of continued health and happiness. – Le Mars Globe-Post, Nov. 14, 1949
