REMSEN MERCHANT DROPS DOWN DEAD. Fred Rubie, Hardware man, Expires in Lobby of Remsen Hotel.
Fred Rubie, Remsen hardware merchant and member of the firm of Koob & Rubie, died suddenly about 2 a.m. in the lobby of the Remsen House this morning.
Mr. Rubie was sitting in a chair in the lobby and the exact time of his death is not known. Nick Scholer, night watchman, came in and remarked that he was sitting up at an unusual hour. Rubie did not replay. Scholer then stepped out and returned in a short time, noting that the man again did not reply to his greeting. He investigated and called John Duster, proprietor of the hotel. It was soon found that Rubie was dead. He was around 66 or 67 years old.
The body is in the funeral department of the Moeller Furniture Co., awaiting direction from relatives at Dubuque who have been notified. – Le Mars Globe-Post, Dec. 31, 1928, page 1.
