JACOB BERGHOLT IS TAKEN BY DEATH
NEWKIRK—Jacob Bergholt, 82, widely known Newkirk resident, died at 3 a.m. Sunday in a Ponca City hospital after an extended illness.
Services will be 2:20 p.m. Tuesday from the First Methodist Church of Winfield officiating. Stahl Funeral Service will conduct interment in the Newkirk Cemetery.
Born June 6, 1875 at Taps, Denmark, Bergholt came to the United States in 1891, locating at Remsen, Iowa. On March 16, 1897, he married Anna Johnson. They moved to Oklahoma in 1902, locating on a farm south of Newkirk.
In 1920 he was appointed manager of the Farmers Elevator in Newkirk, serving in that position until he retired in 1954.
Bergholt’s first wife died in 1929 and on January 31, 1936, he was married to Mrs. Jessie M. Kandur at Winfield. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church at Winfield, the Grange, ATA Club, Rotary Club and Chamber of Commerce.
He is survived by his wife of the home, a son Iver, Teaneck. N.J.; a daughter, Miss Martha Bergholt of 704 McFadden, Ponca City; two grandchildren and a step-daughter, Mrs. Thelma Rockwell, Rye, N.Y.
