Dolores A. Paulson, 91, of Le Mars passed away Monday, June 6, 2011 at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 10, 2011 at St. James Catholic Church, Le Mars, Iowa with Reverend Matt Hewitt officiating. Interment will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery-Neptune, rural Hinton, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will be after 5:00 p.m. Thursday, June 9, 2011 at the Carlsen-Feuerstein Funeral Home of Le Mars. There will be a 6:30 p.m. Parish Rosary followed by a 7:00 Scriptural Wake Service Thursday evening at the funeral home. Visitation will continue Friday morning at the church from 9:30 a.m. until service time. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.carlsenfuneralhome.com.

Dolores Agnes Sitzmann was born April 26, 1920 on the family farm in Lincoln Township to John Joseph and Mary Jane (Connor) Sitzmann. Dolores was the youngest of 14 children. She attended and graduated from St. Joseph Catholic High School in Le Mars and then continued her education at Westmar College in Le Mars where she received her teaching certificate.

Dolores was united in marriage with Carl Paulson on December 6, 1943 at the Cathedral of the Epiphany in Sioux City, IA. During Carl’s career in the Navy, they lived in several cities across the country. The couple were blessed with one son, Tom. When Tom was a young boy, the family settled in Le Mars.

Dolores was a lifelong member of St. James Catholic Church where she was a member of the altar society and Catholic Daughters. She enjoyed helping other people and was a frequent volunteer at the community homes for the elderly as well as the Peer program for those who were seriously ill. Dolores also loved to travel. She visited every state as well as several foreign countries.

She is survived by a son, Tom Paulson and his wife Linda of Vermillion, South Dakota and a granddaughter, Margaret Paulson of Chicago, Illinois.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John Joseph and Mary Jane (Connor) Sitzmann; her husband Carl Paulson who died on January 24, 1985; a grandson, Michael Collamer Paulson, who died August 16, 2000; and 13 brothers and sisters.
