MAASS, ERICHSEN, ROBINSON, BOTTJEN, ANDERSON

Frank Maass was devoted to agriculture, farm life.
Remsen special: The last rites were held for Frank A. Maass, 79, Remsen, at Christ Lutheran church, Remsen, Friday at 10:30 a.m. Rev. Leroy Riemer, pastor of Bethel Lutheran church in Sutherland, officiated.

Mrs. Herman Kluver was organist and soloists were grandchildren of Mr. Maass. Tom Jeneary sang “How Great Thou Art” and Mrs. Dan Bottjen sang “Asleep in Jesus, Blessed Sleep.”

Pallbearers were all grandsons, Kevin Maass, Jerry Maass, Dan Bottjen, Dean Mohning, Larry Anderson and Raymond Robinson.

Honorary pallbearers, all grandsons, were Lance Maass, Scott Maass, Douglas Maass, Barry Maass, Paul Maass, Dean Maass, Brian Maass, David Robinson, Robert Anderson and Roger Anderson.

The congregation participated by singing “What a Friend We Have in Jesus,” and response of the 23rd Psalm.

Pastor Riemer gave the sermon and also graveside services in the Remsen City cemetery.

Friends and relatives gathered at Christ Lutheran church after the services for a fellowship hour. Ladies of the church served.

Survivors are his wife, Marie; three daughters, Mrs. Glen (Dorothy) Robinson, Mrs. George (Helen) Bottjen, both of Remsen, and Mrs. Burton (Ruth) Anderson, Le Mars; three sons, Elmer of Remsen, Wayne of Paullina and Roy of Lorimor; 25 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Fred (Clara) Seel, Remsen.

Relatives and friends who came from a distance to attend the funeral were Mrs. Clarence Olsen, Mrs. Gene Smithey, Mrs. Keith Halverson, Mr. and Mrs. Arlin Olsen, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Maass, Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Dougaard, Mr. and Mrs. John Rehder, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Rehder and Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Dubbe, all of South Dakota.

Mr. and Mrs. Ed Anderson and Mr. and Mrs Raymond Olsen, all of Council Bluffs; Henry Lopau and Bryon of Sibley; Mr. and Mrs. Bob Hoyt of Marion; Mr. and Mrs. Tom Jeanery of West Branch; Mr. and Mrs. Duane Huffman of Minnesota; the family of Wayne Maass of Paullina and family of Roy Maass of Lorimor.

Mr. Maass will long be remembered for his contribution of 25 years of 4-H leadership in the Remsen community and working with young people, as well as his services as an officer in his church, serving the school as director for many years and his interest in school activities, but most of all, he will be remembered as a man devoted to agriculture and Iowa farm life. – Le Mars Daily Sentinel, October 18, 1977, page 1
