William Gregg Snyder
(May 25, 1916 - June 21, 2007)

Alton, Iowa – William Gregg Snyder, 91, of Alton, Iowa passed away on Thursday, June 21, 2007 at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 28, 2007 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton, Iowa. Father John Vakulskas will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Granville, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton. A Rosary Service will begin at 3:00 p.m. and a Scriptural Prayer Service will take place at 7:30 p.m. The family will be present from 5-7:30 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to Mass on Thursday.

William Gregg Snyder was born on May 25, 1916 in Marcus, Iowa to Bartholomew and Alice (Carey) Snyder. He attended country school near his home. Following his education he worked at a repair shop between Marcus and Granville, Iowa. On October 26, 1938 he married Florence W. Witte. Gregg attended mechanics school in Detroit, Michigan and returned to Marcus to work in various auto repair garages. Gregg would later become a truck driver and eventually purchased two gravel trucks.

In 1954 the family moved to Alton where Gregg owned and operated Snyder Repair. He changed to golf cart repair in 1980. Florence passed away on September 17, 1989. Gregg married Arlene (Hesse) Schumann on August 17, 1991 in Granville, Iowa. He retired from golf cart repair in 2002. They remained in Alton until Gregg moved to Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars on January 2, 2007. Gregg enjoyed camping, fishing, bowling, trips to the casino and was an avid golfer.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Arlene of Alton, IA; a son Rodney Snyder and a daughter Deborah (Wayne) Evans both of Granville, IA; grandchildren Timothy Snyder, Katherine (John) Schuver, Henry Vrieze, Kimberly (Phil) Scorza, Theresa (Tim) Jellema, and Dustin (Michelle) Evans; great-grandchildren Randall, Brittany and Erin Snyder, John, Jacob, and Katie Rus, Kassie and Daimon Scorza, Nathan Vrieze, Andrew Fiedler, Beau, Caroline, Tabitha and Skyler Gries; step-children and their families Darwin (Kathy) Schuman of Valley Center, KS, Jessica Tibbot Shelly (Freidhel) Otto, Brandon Tibbot and Alexandria Otto, Angie (Hardy) Frey, and Julia, Aaron, Hannah and Erick Frey, Marilyn (Dallas) Tyler of Mattoon, IL and Leigh (Ian) Erdos, Hannah and Verlyn Erdos, Craig Tyler and Sara Tyler; Veryl Schumann of Pensacola, FL and Randy and Amanda Schumann, Tanya Schumann and Quintus and Jason Schumann; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first beloved wife Florence; a daughter Pamille Bird; a daughter-in-law Betty Snyder; a sister Lenora Meehan; and two brothers Marshall and Robert.
