(November 25, 1923 - July 19, 2009)

Pierson, Iowa - Harold A. Herbold, 85, formerly of Pierson, passed away at the Sunrise Retirement Community in Sioux City on Sunday, July 19, 2009, following a brief illness.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2009, at the Salem Lutheran Church, rural Correctionville, with Pastor Bert Burwell, A.i.M. officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery, rural Pierson. Visitation will be at the Johnson-Earnest Funeral Home in Kingsley, Iowa, from 2:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22, 2009, and will resume on Thursday morning at the Salem Lutheran Church, one hour prior to Harold’s service.

Harold A. Herbold was born on November 25, 1923 in Pierson, Iowa, the son of Albert C. and Clara A. (Treptow) Herbold. He was baptized, confirmed and a life-long member of the Salem Lutheran Church. Harold graduated from Pierson Consolidated High School in 1942 and furthered his education at Iowa State University. Harold was employed at the A.B. Paulson Grocery Store until 1949, at which time, he started farming. He took great pride in his farm and enjoyed raising cattle, hogs and sheep, as well as, crops of corn, soybeans and hay. Harold resided with his parents on the farm. After his father, Albert died in 1961, he and his mother continued to live on the farm until 1993, when they both made the decision to move to the Sunrise Retirement Community in Sioux City. Clara died in 2000, at the age of 104.

Harold is survived by his ten nieces and nephews, Joe Eickholt, Ray Eickholt, Deborah Robinson, Diane Dynes, Marj Eickholt, Marilyn Eickholt, Earl Rock, David Herbold, Albert Herbold, and Donald Herbold and numerous other relatives and friends.

Preceding Harold in death are his parents, Albert and Clara Herbold; his three sisters, Lola Eickholt, Rosella Rock and Ona Mae Herbold, and his brother, Adolph Herbold.
