(October 7, 1936 - April 30, 2011)Le Mars, Iowa - Shirley M. Plendl, 74, of Le Mars, Iowa passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at Regency Square Center in South Sioux City, Nebraska. Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Pastor Jon Moravec of Rejoice! Community Church in Le Mars will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery (Neptune), rural Hinton, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at the funeral home with the family present from 5-8 p.m. to greet friends. Visitation will resume at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Shirley Marie Jebsen was born on October 7, 1936 in Hinton, Iowa to Roy and Bernice (Juhl) Jebsen. She graduated from Hinton High School and later attended Stewart’s School of Hair Styling in Sioux City, Iowa. Throughout the years Shirley was employed at IBP, Kidder-Knoepfler Chevrolet and Stewart’s Beauty Salon all in Sioux City. More recently Shirley worked at Wal-Mart in Sioux City and Le Mars.
On June 13, 1984, Shirley and John J. Plendl were united in marriage in Reno, Nevada. The couple made their home on a farm in Plymouth County, Iowa. In 1996, John and Shirley retired from farming and moved to Le Mars. John passed away on December 3, 2001. Shirley remained in Le Mars until moving to Regency Care Center in South Sioux City, Nebraska on December 10, 2010. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and all types of crafts.
She will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Alan Pedersen and his wife Cindy of South Sioux City, Nebraska, Dale Pedersen and his wife Sheila of Jackson, Nebraska, and Jason Jackson and his wife Tracy of Le Mars, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; 9 great- grandchildren; 3 sisters, Sue Krohl and her husband Gary and Sally Barkley and her husband John both of Sioux City, Iowa and Sylvia Hanson and her husband Tom of Hinton, Iowa; and a longtime family friend, Boots Hall of Jackson, Nebraska.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband John; granddaughters, Amanda Pedersen and Quintessence Jackson.
