James “Jim” Kayser, 85, of Le Mars passed away on Friday, May 6, 2011 at the Orange City Area Health System, following a brief illness.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday May 10, 2011 at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars, with Reverend Matt Hewitt presiding. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Remsen. Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Monday at the Carlsen - Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars, where there will be a Parish rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a Vigil Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will also be on Tuesday morning at St. James Church for one hour prior to the funeral.

James Henry Kayser was born October 28, 1925 at Emery, South Dakota, the son of Frank and Mathilda (Kramer) Kayser. He grew up at Emery and attended school there. His father passed away while he was still a teenager and his mother and family moved to the Remsen area, where he farmed for his mother. Jim married Clara Shea on May 23, 1951 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen. Following their marriage the couple farmed in the Remsen area until 1990, at which time they moved to Le Mars. Jim had also been employed with Mid-Sioux Opportunities for a few years. From 1980 to 1996 Jim had been the driver for the SRTS bus.

Jim was a member of St. James Catholic Church. He enjoyed fishing in his younger years but later Jim enjoyed making wall rosaries. He had made more than 200 of them and had given them to family and many friends.

Survivors include his wife Clara Kayser of Le Mars; six children: Frank (Diane) Kayser of Le Mars, Nancy (Jerry) Schwartz of Merrill, Jeff (Laurie) Kayser, Ron (Rhonda) Kayser, Pam Kayser, and Terry Kayser, all of Le Mars; 15 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; a sister, Eileen Ortmann of Le Mars; two brothers- in-law: Paul (Shirley) Shea of Marcus, and Larry Shea of Casa Grande, AZ; three sisters-in-law: Velva Shea of Sioux City, Lois Pedersen of Remsen, and Carol (Clyde) Schuttpelz of Le Mars; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Paul Kayser and his wife Norma; a sister, Sylvia Koopman and her husband Wayne; and a brother-in-law, Joe Ortmann. Other brothers and sisters-in-law preceding him were Elaine and William Sanow, Gerald “Bud” Shea, Walter and Theresa Shea, Omer and Bev Shea, and Arlene Shea.

Pallbearers will be eight grandsons: Jim Kayser, Mike Kayser, Zachary Schwartz, Jarrod Kayser, Luke Kayser, Brett Kayser, Nick Kayser and Dan Kayser. Honorary Pallbearers will be the remainder of his grandchildren: Marie Bornholtz, Jessica Moeller, Kayla Kayser, Corissa Schwartz, Katrina Yates, Adam Schwartz and Tyler Prouty.
