Joyce E. Grenier, 82, of Le Mars passed away Sunday, May 8, 2011 at St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday May 12, 2011 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Le Mars, with Reverend Kevin Richter officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Carlsen – Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars, where there will be a combined rosary by the Christian Mothers and Catholic Daughters at 4:00 p.m. and a Vigil Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the Church on Thursday before the funeral.
The former Joyce Elizabeth Kramer was born October 13, 1928 at Le Mars, Iowa, the daughter of Frank H. and Henrietta (Puetz) Kramer. She grew up in Le Mars and graduated from Le Mars Central High School. Following High School she earned her degree in business at National Business Training School in Sioux City and was employed as a secretary with Iowa Public Service until her marriage. She married Ernest Garland Grenier on May 6, 1952 at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. Joyce was an active church and school volunteer for many years.
Joyce was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, The Christian Mothers Society, and Catholic Daughters of America. In addition, she was a member of multiple Bridge Clubs and the National Mah-jongg League, Inc. Her passion was bridge and mah-jongg with her friends, but she always made time to help at church and school. Until recent years, she was an avid golfer and bowler. She loved her family.
Survivors include a daughter Deborah A. (Charles W.) Elliott of Clayton, NC, three sons: Bruce R. (Rebecca A.) Grenier of Clive, IA, John C. Grenier of Wilder, KY, and David A. (Shelly A.) Grenier of Ankeny, IA; a daughter-in-law, Sue I. Grenier of West Des Moines, IA; six grandchildren: Annie E. Elliott, Charles A. Elliott, Margaret M. (Jacob V.) Gonnering, Jeffrey R. Grenier, Brianna N. Grenier and Kayla M. Grenier; a great granddaughter, Ella K. Gonnering; and two brothers: Robert Kramer of Cedar Rapids, IA and Lawrence Kramer of Mill Valley, CA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ernie Grenier October 26, 1987; and a son, James R. “J.R.” November 24, 2003. ©
