Kenneth Farmer, 96, of Brunsville, Iowa passed away Monday, March 28, 2011 at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

Memorial Service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at the Carmel Reformed Church, rural Rock Valley, Iowa with Pastor Mark Heijerman officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Cemetery, Le Mars, Iowa. Visitations with the family present to greet friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Pallbearers will be Brett Oetken, Craig Oetken, Todd Oetken, Scott Farmer, Jared Farmer, Joshua Farmer, and Jeff Brown. Honorary casket bearers will be Tammy Whalen, Kari Lang, Julie Brown, Angie Durr, and Michele Hansen.

Kenneth Fredrick Farmer was born May 14, 1914 on the family farm south of Le Mars, Iowa to George and Lorena (Fett) Farmer. He attended country school near his home and later attended Le Mars Community High School. Kenneth was united in marriage to Hazel Lang on June 8, 1937. He farmed in Stanton Township for several years. Ken was a bulk transport driver for Well’s Dairy for 25 years, retiring in the early 1980’s. Ken was later united in marriage to Henrietta “Hank” Langstraat on October 20, 1973 at the Little Chapel in Sioux Center, Iowa.

In his early years, Ken enjoyed horseback riding and in later years enjoyed golfing. He also enjoyed reading, word puzzles, and pitching horseshoes. Ken always enjoyed family and visiting; especially with his grandchildren. His family always considered Kenneth to truly be a gentleman farmer.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Henrietta of Brunsville; 5 children, 12 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren, Larry Farmer and his wife Carol of Westfield; Kathleen Kruse and her husband Wendell “Tiny” and family Brett and Vicki Oetken and their children, Sarah, Lindsey and Nathan, Craig Oetken and his sons Taylor and Cody, Todd and Kathi Oetken and their sons Tyler, Seth, and Riley, Tammy Whalen and her children A.J., Dylan, Lydia, and Elena, and Kari Lang and her children Trevor and Kylee; Richard Farmer and his wife Lyla of Craig and their family, Michele and Denny Hansen and their family Mindy, Jason, and Jake, Scott Farmer, Jared and Lisa and their son Micah, and Joshua and Mindy Farmer and their family Kyle, Joshie, and Lylliann; Peggy Olson of Le Mars and her family Jeff and Terri Brown and their children Coleton and Sydney, Julie Brown and her son Kristopher, and Angie Durr and her son Ethan; and Michael Farmer of Le Mars; and several nieces and nephews.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law, Alwayne Oetken; 3 great grandsons, Matthew and Joseph Oetken and Elijah Farmer; 2 brothers, Arthur and Vernon Farmer; and a sister, Rozella Merritt.
