E. L. Striker Passes Away
Was Veteran of the Civil War and Pioneer Resident

Eugene L. Striker, veteran painter and musician, and a pioneer resident of LeMars, died Saturday afternoon at a hospital in Sioux City, at the age of 83 years. Mr. Striker had been in failing health the past year and a few weeks ago his condition became serious, aggravated by tubercular throat trouble.

Eugene L. Striker was born in Cuyahoga county, Ohio, April 29, 1845 and grew up in Cleveland, where he acquired the trade of painter. When the Civil war broke out he volunteered for service and was a member of the 124th Ohio infantry, and at the close of the strife received an honorable discharge.

Eugene L. Striker was a musician of more than ordinary ability, and devoted much of his life to the profession of music. He was a violinist and cornet player and for many years gave instruction in music. Mr. Striker was for a number of years conductor for the Le Mars band. He was leader of dance orchestras for many years.

He came to Le Mars in the early eighties and followed his trade of painter and profession of music, until failing health caused his retirement.

He was twice married, his first wife dying in youth. He was united in marriage with Miss Fannie Rubel, of LeMars, December 14,1896, who has been his constant companion and devotedly nursed him in his declining years.

Besides the widow, he is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Nora Lilly and Mrs. Amelia Perry, of Cleveland, Ohio

Eugene L. Striker was one of the pioneers of Le Mars, and was widely known especially, among the older generation. He had qualities which made him many friends and his name is linked among the many associations of pioneer days.

The funeral services will be held this afternoon a t the Beely undertaking parlors at 2 o'clock, Rev. F. E. Burgess, pastor the Methodist church, officiating, and interment will be made in the city cemetery. Members of the G.A.R., American Legion, and Spanish American War Veterans
Legion will attend the funeral and accord military honors to the departed.
