Orval Copenhaver

ANTHON — Orval C. Copenhaver, 100, rural Anthon, died Sunday, Feb. 19, 1995, at his home after a long illness.

Mr. Copenhaver was born Jan. 14, 1895, in Luton, the son of Tom and Ella (Sluyter) Copenhaver. He lived in North Dakota prior to moving to Iowa. He married Jennie M. DenBensten March 16; 1916, in Mandan, N.D. She died Jan. 8, 1992, at her home in Anthon. He had farmed near Hinton for 40 years and had made his home with his daughter, Irene Welty, near Anthon the last seven years. Mr. Copenhaver was a member of the United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Irene Welty of Anthon and Audrey and her husband, George Olson of Emerson, Neb.; a son and his wife, Lyle and Marjie Copenhaver of Hinton; seven grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren and one step great-great-grandchild.

He was also preceded in death by two sisters and a grandson.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Hinton United Methodist Church with the Rev. Stan Long officiating. Burial will be in Floyd Valley Cemetery at Hinton. Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. today (Tuesday), with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at Christy, Smith & Hockenberry Morningside Funeral Home in Sioux City.
