(February 16, 1931 - October 19, 2010)

Merrill, Iowa-Dolores J. Trometer, 79, of Merrill, Iowa passed away Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at Touchstone Living Center in Sioux City, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 23, 2010, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Merrill, Iowa with the Rev. Sarah Nye officiating. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Merrill. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 22, 2010 at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars, Iowa. The family will be present to greet friends from 5-7 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Saturday one hour prior to services at the church.

Dolores Jean Trometer was born on February 16, 1931 in Boyden, Iowa, the daughter of John and Florence (Dean) Stange. She attended school at various places in Iowa prior to her family settling in Merrill, Iowa. She later attended an area business college.

On December 22, 1949 Dolores and Merlin Trometer were united in marriage at Merrill, Iowa. The couple made their home in Merrill. For the majority of her life Dolores worked as an administrative assistant at Dynatech in Sioux City, Iowa. She retired in 1976.

Dolores was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Merrill. She and Merlin enjoyed traveling and enjoyed visiting the Black Hills of South Dakota. Dolores liked to play solitaire and work crossword puzzles. She and Merlin were a regular part of the morning coffee group in Merrill and had fun visiting with friends. Most of all, Dolores cherished the time she spent with her family.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Merlin of Merrill, IA; grandchildren Chanal Todd and her husband Chad of Kansas City, MO and Derek Strandburg and his wife Angela of Grain Valley, MO; a great-granddaughter Reece Todd; a brother Jerry Stange and his wife Joanne of Albert City, IA; and a sister Bernice Peters and her husband Elmer of Rembrandt, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Cheryl on February 2, 2010; a sister Shirley; and brothers Vinton, Clifton, Earl, Willis and Dean.
