James 'Jim' McCarthy

Captain James (Jim) McCarthy, 55, of Miramar, Fla., died Monday, Dec. 13, 2010, in Nairobi, Kenya, from a pedestrian accident while there for his employment as a pilot.

Jim was originally from Le Mars, where he attended Gehlen Catholic School and Le Mars Community School. He graduated from Le Mars Community High School in 1974.

Jim enjoyed his life of flying, which took him to various countries.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Cruz McCarthy, of Miramar, Fla.; sons, Paul McCarthy of Davenport, Peter McCarthy and his fiancée, Jen Nussbaum of Cedar Rapids, and Oscar and Jose Terraza of Florida; his brothers, John (Kris) McCarthy of Spencer, and Jeffrey (Navid) McCarthy of Victorville, Calif.; his sisters Jacqueline (Charles) Carroll, Schaumburg, Ill., Joleen (Dennis) Goergen of Spencer, and Joyce Pitts of Le Mars; his mother-in-law, Ruth Cruz; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Kurt and Laura Davidson, Toni and Gabby Cruz and Jeanie Cruz.

He is preceded in death by his father, Francis McCarthy; mother, Joan Neyens; stepfather, Wilbur Neyens and father-in-law, Roberto Cruz.

Services will be held at a later date in Florida.
