Word was received in Hinton on Tuesday of the death of Jacob Luft. Mr. Luft had been sick for some time and about six weeks ago was taken to the home of his son, Jacob Luft, in Sioux City for better care.
Jacob Luft was born in Hessen, Darmstadt, Germany, on June 23, 1834, and died in Sioux City on April 25, 1911, aged 76 years, 9 month and 29 days. Mr. Luft came to America in 1856 and settled in Illinois, where he was married to Elizabeth Margandahl. To them were born five children, three sons and two daughters, all of whom survive, but Mrs. Fred Stevens, who died a few years ago.
Mr. Luft served three years in the German army and one year in the United States army, fighting in the Civil War, and was buried in the uniform be wore during the Civil War.
The funeral services were held at the U. E. Church at Hinton on Friday morning at 10 a. m. Interment was made in the Melbourne Cemetery beside that of his daughter.
