REMSEN MAN FOUND DEAD IN BASEMENT

William G. Sievers Was Despondent

The body of William G. Sievers, 76, of Remsen, was discovered Sunday evening by his son, William D. Sievers of Le Mars, when the latter called at his father's home in Remsen.

The elderly man was found in a basement laundry room, where he had hanged himself from a rope attached to pipes on the ceiling. Coroner S, H. Luken who was summoned to investigate the death reported that Mr. Sievers had taken his life sometime Sunday.

He had been despondent in recent months, the coroner's investigation disclosed. A neighbor Earl Hanno had talked to him Saturday, and it appeared that Mr. Sievers had risen and dressed Sunday. The Sunday paper lad been brought into the house, indicating that the death had occured sometime during the day.

The body was taken to the Moeller funeral home, pending funeral arrangements.

Funeral services for William G. Sievers, 76, retired Remsen Banker and lifelong resident at Remsen, whose body was found hanging in the basement of his home Sunday night, were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday at Christ Lutheran Church at Remsen.

Rev. Alfred Christiansen pastor of the church, officiated at the services. Burial was in the Remsen city cemetery under the direction of the Moeller funeral home.

He had lived alone at Remsen since the death of is wife four years ago.

He was born October 23, 1884 at Remsen.

He married Dorothy Lindemann on December 29, 1910, at Remsen. She died there October 20, 1956.

For many years president of First National bank of Remsen and later an officer of the First Trust and Savings bank of Remsen, he retired about 10 years ago, but remained a director of the later bank.

He was a member of Christ Lutheran church and was its treasurer for 50 years.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs., J. R. Dew of Waverly, Ia.; three sons, William of Le Mars, Dr. Linden Sievers of Fall Brook Cal.; Dr. Raymond Sievers of Redmond, Wash.; two sisters, Mrs. Louisa Post of Mitchell, S.D., and Miss Helen Sievers of Estherville, Ia.; a brother Frank of Apple Valley, Cal.; and nine grandchildren.
