(August 5, 1934 - December 19, 2010)

Marcus, Iowa – Marlene Meehan, 76, of Urbandale, Iowa, and formerly of Marcus, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, December 19, 2010, at the Kavanagh Hospice House in Des Moines, Iowa.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 29, 2010, at the Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus, Iowa, with the Rev. Eugene Murray celebrating the Mass. Interment will be in the Holy Name Parish Cemetery, Marcus. The family will greet relatives and friends at the Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus, one hour prior to Marlene’s service on Wednesday morning.

Dorothy Marlene Meehan was born on August 5, 1934, in Marcus, Iowa, the daughter of M. Lenora (Snyder) and J. Andrew Meehan. She was one of four children and graduated from the Holy Name Catholic High School in 1952. Marlene, as she was lovingly known by her family and friends, was employed for numerous years in the accounting and payroll department at Iowa Sheet Metal, later known as Waldingers Corporation in Des Moines. She later worked for Air-Con, from which she retired. Marlene was a very active woman within her community and church. Some of her hobbies and interests included spending time with her friends and family, golfing, snow skiing in Colorado, and playing afternoon bridge with her gal friends. She was a devoted member of the St. Pius X Catholic Church in Urbandale, where she was also an active member of the Altar and Rosary Society, and attended daily Mass. Marlene was a volunteer at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines and a member of the Red Hat Society.

Marlene’s memory will be cherished by many relatives and friends who have shared in her life. She is survived by her sister, Marcia (Dean) Drefke of Marcus, IA; her brother, Ken (Lorraine) Meehan of West Des Moines, IA; her nieces and nephews, Lynn (Pat) Murray, Mike (Deb) Meehan, Kathy (Billy) Bryant, Lori King, Bill Meehan, Tom (Margie) Meehan, Maureen (Larry) Nissen, and Dan Drefke: and her great-nieces and nephews, Meredith Murray, Katie Meehan, Robert Gray, Jessica, Nicholas and Emily King, Bobby Meehan, and Jaci and Matthew Nissen. Preceding Marlene in death are her parents, Andrew and Lenora Meehan; her brother, James “Jim” Meehan, and her nephew, Bob Meehan.
