Marleen “Bobbie” Mentzer, 90, of Ames, Iowa passed away Thursday, January 20, 2011 at Homeward Hospice, Israel Family House in Ames, Iowa.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 24, 2011 at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with Reverend Tim Geitz officiating. Interment will be at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will be Monday, January 24, 2011 at the Carlsen Funeral Home from 9:30 a.m. until service time. Merleen Mae Moritz was born July 25, 1920 in Kingsley, Iowa to John and Maggie (Simonsen) Moritz. She grew up in rural Kingsley and graduated from Kingsley High School. Bobbie married Lee Arnold Mentzer on June 1, 1944, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Arnold and Bobbie loved their life (lots of friends) in Hackensack, Minnesota, where they owned and operated Mentzer’s Autos, Sun and Fun Soda Fountain, and The House of Mentzer, a women’s dress store, for many years.
They were members of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hackensack, Minnesota for many years.
Arnold and Bobbie enjoyed visiting family and friends in Phoenix, Arizona, through the years. After Arnold’s death in 1973, Bobbie moved to Eden Prairie, Minnesota, where she taught business classes at the Eden Prairie Community College.
In 2000, Bobbie moved to Ames, Iowa, to be closer to family. She had resided at The Colonial Manor in Zearing, Iowa, since 2001, where she enjoyed her time with the wonderful staff and many friends.
Bobbie is survived by a sister; Marjorie Page of Kingsley, Iowa, a sister-in-law; Amy Becker of Le Mars, Iowa, and many nieces and nephews.
Bobbie was preceded in by her parents, husband; Lee Arnold Mentzer on January 29, 1973, and a brother; John “Jack” Moritz on March 17, 2005.Carlsen Funeral Home
