Jane Ione Hemmelman, 63, of Merrill died Tuesday, April 1, 1997, at the Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in Le Mars, Iowa following a lengthy illness.

Services were held Friday, April 4 at Adaville United Methodist Church in rural Merrill, with the Rev. Fred Malone officiating. Burial was in Adaville United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Ms. Hemmelman was born July 13, 1933, near Brandt, S.D., the daughter of Raymond and Mable (Estenson) Johnson. She was raised in the Clear Lake and Brandt, S.D. area and graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1950.

She moved to a farm near Le Mars in 1955. She had been a waitress at Archie's Waeside for more than 20 years. She also raised hogs on her acreage for many years, before she started work with Tri-Beefs hog unit near Le Mars in 1981. She
became a manager of the farrow to finish unit. She was a member of the Country Gardeners Garden Club. She enjoyed gardening and refinishing old furniture.

Survivors include four sons, Steve and his wife Vicky and Mike all of rural Merrill, Lane and his wife Diane and Ray all of Le Mars; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; three sisters and their husbands,

Marlene and George Stauffacher of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Betty and Doyle Strohschein of Clear Lake, S.D. and Margie and Gerry Grourd of Brookings, S.D.; and two special friends, Mae and Edward Kilker of Le Mars.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Lyle Johnson.
