Carrie Morris, 80, of rural Akron, Iowa passed away Saturday, December 18, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron, Iowa. Pastor Mary Feistner of St. Paul Lutheran Church, rural Elk Point, South Dakota will officiate. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Akron, Iowa. Visitation will be after 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 21, 2010, with the family present from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., all at the funeral home. Visitation will resume from noon until service time on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Carrie Corrine McCambridge was born November 20, 1930 in Burbank, South Dakota. She attended country school near Burbank.

Following her schooling, she began working at a local café in Elk Point, South Dakota. During that time, she met her husband, Oliver Morris. The couple farmed near Elk Point, South Dakota for many years, raising polled Hereford cattle. Later, she began working for Elk Point Public School as a custodian and later as a cook.

In 1989, they moved to a homestead near the Big Sioux River, at Akron. Carrie enjoyed operating “Border Fireworks” around the 4th of July for many years. Oliver passed away May 17, 1991. Carrie continued to work for the school. In 2006, she retired after 37 years with the school district. For the past few years, she had been a caregiver for her twin sister, Corrine Beadle.

Carrie loved caring for pets, especially dogs and cats. She also enjoyed feeding birds. For many years, she and her sister enjoyed “breaking” and riding horses. She loved the times spent with her family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her 3 children: Catherine Maurstad (Doug) of Alcester, SD, Charlene Schaefer (Robert) of Vermillion, SD, and Oliver Morris of Elk Point, SD; 7 grandchildren: Jill Meyer (Chad) and their daughter, Ashlyn of Tea, SD, Bradley Hanson (Heidi) and their daughter, Alexis of Clarksville, TN, Aaron Hanson (Katherine) and their daughter, Isabella of Eielson A.F.B, AK, Brittany Hanson of Vermillion, SD, Randy Morris of Brookings, SD, Charles Morris of Vermillion, SD, and Andrew Morris of Elk Point, SD; and her twin sister: Corrine Beadle of Hudson, SD.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Oliver; a sister: Maxcene Helseth; and a brother: Bryon McCambridge.
