BELLINGHAM, Wash. -
Herbert "Herb" N. Doering, age 81, of Bellingham, Wash., died June 4, 2002 at Bellingham. He was a longtime resident of Le Mars, before moving to Bellingham.

He was born in Grant Township, Plymouth County, on July 14, 1920, the son of Albert "AB" and Katherine (Lubben) Doering "in a house within a house." Herb fell in love with Darlene M. Lang while she was still in high school, and after she graduated from high school he married her on Aug. 14,1940.

Herb served in the U.S. Army from 1943 through 1946 during World War II. He then worked at the Ford Garage in Le Mars, before working for IPS. He transferred to the state of Washington in 1974 and began working for the Bonneville Power Administration, retiring from there in 1989. He was a lifetime Lutheran and a member of Central Lutheran Church for the last eight years. He was also a member of the VFW. He loved sports, reading, and "the good old days". Herb was a master Jack of All Trades. His greatest joy was working side by side with his son, Denny. Herb was a giving and loving husband and father, and was the best helper anyone could ask for. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his son,Dennis and wife, Pat Doering, of Bellingham, Wash.; grandchildren, Aimee and her husband, Sean Kooley, and Todd Doering; a step-grandson John and wife, Amy Novotny; great-grandchildren, Jack and Kate Kooley, and Jordan and Hayden Novotny; many nieces and nephews throughout the Midwest; sister-in-law Marjorie and husband Alwin Eilts of Le Mars; sister-in-law Jeanne and husband, Terry Heller of Des Moines; and buddy John Hrbaty.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; two brothers; and his wife Darlene.

A visitation will be held Saturday, from 10 a. m. to 1 p. m. at Jones Moles Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 1 p. m. Saturday at Jones Moles Funeral Home. Burial will be at Bayview Cemetery.
